Are there liens against me/my client
The Clerk’s office needs as much information as possible to determine if it is your client or not. Ex: Address, previous address, spouse’s name, middle initial, etc.
How do you file a lien?
To file a lien you must have a judgment in our court, or any court. Ex: Hamilton County Municipal Court, Probate Court, Bankruptcy Court, U.S. District Court, another court in the State of Ohio, A foreign judgment from another state court such as Kentucky Circuit Court, etc.
What is the filing fee?
Common Pleas Civil Filing Fees.
Can I obtain a case cost statement from the website?
Common Pleas Cost Statement
I filed a garnishment and now money has been paid into the court. How do I obtain those funds?
Garnishment deposits, less the applicable court costs and poundage, are distributed by obtaining a court order from the judge assigned to the case. The Order of Distribution form is found under the Common Pleas Civil Forms on the website under the General category
If the garnishment I filed continues to receive money deposits, do I need to file an Order of Distribution for each new deposit?
No. You may file one Order of Distribution to cover all future deposits, but it must be titled “Continuous Order of Distribution”. In addition, the Clerk does not monitor incoming garnishment payments. Those who have a continuous distribution order on file can monitor incoming payments via the online docket. As new payments come in, they must call 946-5667 in order to have that money distributed.
I have a friend/family member in an Ohio Correctional Facility. They’ve been billed for court costs, and the institution is withholding their commissary money. Why?
If the Judge determined that a defendant is responsible for paying a fine and/or court costs, The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, may apply all but $15.00 of an inmate’s commissary money toward those fees.
Is there anything I can do to stop the institution from taking the commissary money?
Yes, if the case is a felony, a payment plan may be set up with the Clerk’s office. A friend or family member may set up an account in Room 315 of the Courthouse. A minimum payment of $25.00 per month is required to be made to the Clerk’s office to be applied toward the fines or costs. As long as the minimum payment is made each month, the institution will not withhold commissary money.

Neither misdemeanor nor traffic cases qualify for a payment plan. These fees must be paid through the Municipal Criminal/Traffic division (946-6050).
